Junior hurling: round 2
Grennan College vs. Ballyhale
On Monday the 25th of September the Grennan College Junior Hurling team set out to the Parc na Shamróga pitch in Ballyhale, to play against Ballyhale’s very own Scoil Aireagail team.
The Grennan boys knew it was going to be a challenging game, but they proceeded to the pitch with confidence. The game started off with a goal from Ballyhale. A great goal was scored by Jamie Holden in the 6th minute. Ciall O’Connor came firing back with Grennan’s first 3 points in the first 17 minutes. Liam Treacy’s work rate was outstanding throughout the first half of this exciting match. Jack O’Byrne and Senan O’Neill did some heroic defending during this match. Some great steals and catches from Cathal O’Neill. By the end of the first half it was 2 goals 8 points to 1 goal 5 points to Ballyhale, with 9 frees and 5 wides to Ballyhale and 3 frees with 5 wides to Grennan College.
The 2nd half begins, with a free to Ballyhale in the first minute followed by a quick point. Joshua Kennedy scored Grennan’s first point after half time in the 6th minute followed by another 2 points made by Jamie Holden again in the second half and Ciall 15 minutes into the second half. With 5 minutes to go Grennan had lessened the gap with another 5 points. Ballyhale managed to score point for point with Grennan. Some unbelievable saves were made by Grennan’s goaly Ben Begley.
Unfortunately when the final whistle blew Ballyhale had defeated Grenanan with a score of 3 goals 18 points to 1 goal 10 points. With Ballyhale having a total of 16 frees and 9 wides, and Grennan having a total of 10 frees and 9 wides.
Even though Grennan put in a tremendous effort it was unfortunate they came up short. However I feel given a bit of luck, their next outing should be more fruitful.
