Tanaiste Visits Grennan College

On Tuesday 7th September 2010 Ms Mary Coughlan, Tanaiste and Minister for Education and Skills visited Grennan College to perform the official sod turning ceremony for the proposed new sportshall. This is a community based project being undertaken by GC Leisure, a trust comprising representatives from  Co. Kilkenny VEC, Grennan College, Thomastown GAA, Thomastown United Soccer Club, and the Community Council, whose aim is to provide a modern sports and recreational facility to cater for the students of Grennan College and the community at large. The VEC has made available a site on the grounds of Grennan College and already GC Leisure has sourced funding the Dept of Tourism Sports and Culture  (Lottery) and also from Kilkenny Co. Co. The Dept of Education and Skills has sanctioned a grant of €330,000 towards the project. It will be necessary to raise the balance through local fundraising. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by December 2011.
